Te Kete Tipuranga o Huirapa Ltd (Arowhenua Native Nursery) is a local initiative based in Temuka, South Canterbury. A company dedicated to conservation and restoration efforts, focusing on preparing planting zones, planting, and maintenance and predator control. Their major project is helping to restore the Rakitata Awa, they embrace the essence of kaitiakitanga, where guardianship, protection and preservation are at the core of their mission. 

They have several vacancies in their restoration team and invite applications from people with an interest in being part of this great initiative. These roles are fixed term contracts until June 2025, with hours of work Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 430 pm. Te Kete is a Living Wage Employer.


The roles involve working outdoors at locations around the South Canterbury and Mackenzie district with key duties including clearing of vegetation, planting, and general labouring.


Successful candidates will bring the following:


  • A genuine interest in horticulture and environmental restoration/conservation
  • A love of working outdoors – in all weather!
  • Good level of physical fitness to meet the role requirements
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and a great work ethic
  • Adaptable and flexible – the work is varied and at different locations across the week
  • A positive approach to workplace health and safety
  • Willingness to learn and receive training
  • Self-motivated and driven to perform to a high standard
  • A driver’s licence (restricted or full)
  • Qualifications and training in horticulture, and environmental management are desirable but not essential for these roles
