Arowhenua Native Nursery is a wholesale plant nursery specialising in providing high-quality native plants grown from eco-sourced seeds for conservation projects, environmental enhancement projects, amenity plantings, landscapers, garden centres, and nurseries across the rohe.


A company dedicated to conservation and restoration efforts, they embrace the essence of kaitiakitanga, where guardianship, protection and preservation are at the core of their mission. 

They have a vacancy in their nursery team and invite applications from people with an interest in being part of this great initiative. This is a full-time permanent position, with work hours Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 4.30 pm. Arowhenua Native Nursery is a Living Wage Employer.


The role is based at their Temuka native nursery with duties and responsibilities such as: propagation, planting, seedling care, grading and pruning plants, watering, spraying, operating a range of equipment, and preparing orders for dispatch.


Successful candidates will bring the following:


  • A genuine interest in horticulture
  • A love of working outdoors – in all weather!
  • Good level of physical fitness to meet the role requirements (including lifting up to 25kgs)
  • Works and communicates collaboratively in a team environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and a great work ethic
  • Adaptable and flexible – willing to pick up other duties as requested, eg delivering orders
  • A positive approach to workplace health and safety
  • Willingness to learn and receive training
  • Self-motivated and driven to maintain high quality standards
  • A driver’s licence (restricted or full) would be an advantage
  • Previous experience working in a plant nursery is desirable
  • Basic mathematics
  • Qualifications and training in horticulture are desirable but not essential for these roles

  • Drug testing completed
  • Ministry of Justice check completed
  • ACC report completed
