Te Kete Tipuranga o Huirapa Ltd (Arowhenua Native Nursery) is a wholesale plant nursery specialising in providing high-quality native plants grown from eco-sourced seeds for conservation projects, environmental enhancement projects, amenity plantings, landscapers, garden centres, and nurseries across the rohe.

They have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Site Manager to join, and lead, their Restoration Services team. This is a hands-on role that will suit a practically minded person who enjoys both managing and working as part of a collaborative team.

The Site Manager will spearhead the restoration and conservation arm of the organisation, coordinating multiple projects, working on-site with the restoration team, providing leadership and guidance, as well as working collaboratively with other departments to achieve key outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Organising and coordinating daily work programs including pest eradication, weed control, land maintenance, and planting
  • Leading a team of up to 15 restoration team workers
  • Working closely with other staff to ensure customer and contractual requirements are met
  • Engaging with customers, landowners, and other key stakeholders to inform and update them
  • Maintaining records and communications using email and computer programs

 

Our ideal candidate will bring the following skills and attributes:

  • Proven experience in a hands-on operational leadership role
  • Organised with strong time management skills
  • Physically fit and capable of undertaking practical work such as planting, land clearing, and pest trapping
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with team members, other leaders, and external parties
  • Qualifications or significant experience in ecological restoration, landscaping, conservation project management or similar disciplines would be an advantage
  • A genuine desire to build a positive team culture, mentor, and develop staff
  • Confidence using computers to communicate and maintain work records
  • Full driver’s licence, and experience operating a range of vehicles
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about tikanga Māori and be part of a Kaupapa Māori organisation
